Cheltenham Open Meeting: Day three

Captain ConanToday has lost some of its lustre with the defections of Sprinter Sacre and Darlan but it is still a cracking card. Here are some pointers… 1.10: This is a race to sit back and enjoy rather than risk your money. A superb novice chase, which sees the fencing debut of the much-heralded Captain Conan. He will have to be 100% fit to beat Sire De Grugy, who could not have been more impressive first time over fences, and Third Intention, who looks every inch a chaser.

1.45: Persian Snow looks each-way value at around 14/1 but there is stable confidence behind Ruben Cotter, who will love the ground. Another mud lover is top weight Secret Edge but he looks anchored by the handicapper.

2.50: The Racing Post Hurdle is still ultra-competitive, even without Darlan. Snap Tie would prefer better ground and Prospect Wells looks to have too much weight. Ted Spread looks interesting but the ground has gone against him, so I’m going for last year’s second Olofi each way. Place a bet here

3.25: A hot novice hurdle and Village Vic will prove hard to beat. One to keep an eye on is Creepy, who really caught the eye in a bumper here last time out and could sneak a place at a big price. he is available at 25/1
