RAW IMPULSE (2.10 Haydock) made a good impression when winning his maiden with a bit of authority at Nottingham in May. A scopey don of Makfi, he was a one-time Derby entrant and although he may not have scaled those heights, there could be some nice races to be won with him. He has top weight in Haydock’s opener today and as long as he handles the fast-ish ground he should be hard to beat off a mark of 84. The other selection…
…is DALEELAK (1.50 Nottingham) who ran a solid race at Epsom behind Tony Curtis, who has run well since in better company. He can continue Mark Johnston’s fantastic run.
Elsewhere, WHITMAN (2.20 Nottingham) could give Johnston a quick double while OLD FASHION (8.45 Hamilton) is progressing slowly but surely and could break his duck in an ordinary race.
MARKET SHARE is 9lb lower than his first start for David O’Meara but I’m not sure he is quite low enough to win so BANCNUANAHEIREANN (8.05 Pontefract), who ran okay in the Royal Hunt Cup, could be a better option dropped in grade.
Be lucky!
Hi Jason,
I was not expecting Together Forever to go off like a bat out of hell. In the circumstances it was no surprise to see her fail to reach the frame. Perhaps if she had been ridden as at Epsom, she might have been closer to a worthy winner in Covert Love. None of the runners that were held up in the rear made much progress.
In the opener Shogun was a comfortable winner and should progress further. Clear Skies ran an eye catching fourth on her debut and definitely looks one to be on next time. She was racing against colts and fillies here, so a very promising run. The other debut runner that I mentioned earlier, London, stayed on at one pace to finish eighth, after showing briefly. yet another who will do better next time.
Cheers!
Hi Jason,
Just a quick one about Saturday’s racing.
Most interesting race from my point of view is the Irish Oaks at the Curragh. This year’s renewal looks to be a very competitive affair. Although the favourite, Curvy, has obvious claims, it may be worth siding with another Coolmore hope, Together Forever.
This filly was the instigator of the rough house in the Oaks at Epsom. Entirely because of her own antics she eventually finished in seventh place, despite looking likely to take a
hand in the finish a couple of furlongs out.
However, on her previous run, she had run on to such effect that she was only head down at the line to Star Of Seville. The winner franked the form in no uncertain fashion at Chantilly, where she ran out a most impressive winner of the
Prix De Diane.
Together Forever is forecast to go off at between 10-1 and 12-1, and is an appealing each way investment.
The opening juvenile event sees the re-appearance of Shogun. Trained by Aiden O’Brien, this son of Fastnet Rock made a little late headway on his debut, after being behind early, to
finish seventh of eleven behind Jim Bolger’s Sanus Per Aquam.
A runner worth watching is Clear Skies. This a JP McManus owned daughter of Sea The Stars out of Gone West. This makes her a half sister to Derby winner Motivator. Is JP starting to take a serious interest in the flat? We shall see. Another O’Brien runner, a Galileo colt named London, maybe one to watch with the future in mind.
Cheers!
