Daily Double June 22

OWEN NA VIEW scored nicely at Hexham yesterday while Miss Macnamara just failed to complete our double, a mistake at the last probably costing her the race. Today is a typical Monday with the comforting presence of a Windsor evening card. Robert Cowell (left) won his first Group One at Ascot last week with Goldream and he trains the first selection today…

MOST TEMPTING will never win a Group One but he did win a race three weeks ago on his eighth attempt. He is another sprinter and we all know how good Cowell is at handling speed merchants. Today he is raised 3lb for his victory at Lingfield in the 2.45 at Wolverhampton. He is consistent and has already run three solid races at the Midlands course. Stocking is a vulnerable favourite as she is a maiden and a tail flasher, so Most Tempting seems a more reliable punt at around 4/1. Darma and Middle East Pearl have winning course form and could be more of a threat.

The other selection is PADDYS RUNNER at Chepstow (2.00). Owned by the Masterson Group, who have been associated with some talented jumpers, this son of Sir Percy ran a cracker at Nottingham when third at 33/1 in a competitive handicap over 1m 6f. Like today, he was ridden by Willie Twiston Davies, a much under-rated jockey and the pair contest a maiden back over 1m 4f. They have a Gosden horse to beat but I’m surprised that at the time of writing Paddys Runner is 9/2.

Last word: Kalimantan improved 30lb over hurdles last winter and looks interesting on the Flat at Chepstow (2.30) while Harwoods Volante won a better race at York nine days ago and can defy a 4lb rise at Wetherby tonight over an extra furlong. He was winning off higher marks last year. Finally, in the first at Windsor tonight, Jinko’s Approval looks each-way value at around 12/1 following a good run over the track recently.
