He looked to have benefited from a recent breathing op to run an excellent third on his reappearance at Newmarket. Always in the van, he showed good early speed and finished the race off well. A similar performance should see him go extremely close today.

The other fancy is SMART RULER at Musselburgh this evening (8.10). He caught the eye staying on well at Catterick over 11 furlongs and is upped in trip tonight. His rating of 70 looks lenient and although he is nine years old, he has recent winning form over hurdles at the Scottish track off a mark of 120. Be lucky!
