Dark Horses: A Knight to remember

lastchancesaloonTODAY is last chance saloon for a horse that I’ve been waiting to shine for two years now. COLD KNIGHT was once regarded as among Alan King’s better bumper horses and he has shown glimmers of promise. But he hasn’t fulfilled the potential he has shown on the gallops. Today is his second run over fences and conditions look to be ideal for this rangy son of Sir Harry Lewis. His best form has come on decent ground on right-hand tracks, so today’s novices’ handicap chase (2.20) at Kempton over 2m 4f looks tailor-made. Another disappointing run and I’ll be scratching him from my notebook!

It will also be worth keeping an eye on SAN GABRIEL who makes his debut as a 3yo in the 1m maiden at Southwell. This Soviet Star colt is the third foal of the speedy and consistent Rancho Cucamonga who won seven races over 6f. He is a half brother to the useful 2011 2yo Heyward Girl, who didn’t really train on as a three-year-old. Ed Walker clearly rated San Gabriel as a juvenile even though he did not step foot on a racecourse and described him as having a “cracking attitude”. He is well worth a watching brief today.
