YES, it’s Royal Ascot week, but I thought we’d aim the Dark Horse microcope at a slightly less glamorous meeting. So tonight’s all-weather card at Kempton gets the treatment and two horses catch the eye. Lady Cecil will be busy saddling up to eight Warren Place runners at Ascot this week but the yard has an interesting one in the one-mile maiden at 7.40 tonight. BLIGHTY is beautifully bred being by Beat Hollow out of the dam Brisk Breeze. The latter was placed in the Park Hill Stakes when trained by Sir Henry and improved each time she ran as a three year old. Blighty makes his debut tonight and Tom Queally will make the effort to go to Kempton for the ride. It’s a weak looking maiden although Estibdaad could be capable of better than he has shown so far.
In the next race MOUNT CHEIRON is expected to step up on his Newmarket debut when he was backed into favouritism. It all seemed to happen a bit quickly for him there and he also suffered a trouble-free passage. He was heavily eased when beaten and the easier surface may help him tonight. A good run from Phoenix Angel in the same race would not be a big surprise.
