ALAN King enjoyed a purple patch in April, with the highlight being Godsmejudge winning the Scottish National. His string have continued in fine form into May and he landed a treble at Kempton on Sunday (probably would have been four if Pantxoa had stayed on his feet). Today he sends a couple to Wincanton and can continue his good run. Fairyinthewind may not be much of a price but should go very close in the opener but the interesting one is CUSTER OF THE WEST.
This eight-year-old is lightly raced and is yet to fulfil the promise of his bumper victory on fast ground in 2010. But there have been hints at a return to form and this does not look like the hottest contest in the world. Providing the ground remains quick, and that is a big if as there is plenty of rain forcast, he could be competitive in the 3.50. He is probably capable of much better than his modest handicap mark may suggest.
