Dark horses: Eager for Zeva

simcockFILLIES will be thriving in this sort of weather and a lightly-raced three-year-old catches my eye today. ZEVA cost £180,000 as a yearling and has always been a favourite of her trainer David Simcock (left). She was well backed for her only race as a juvenile when she was a solid third on Kempton’s Polytrack. On her reappearance she ran well enough to be fourth at Newcastle but comes back in trip at Lingfield today (4.45) and returns to the Polytrack. She is available at around 6/1 and that looks decent value.

In the second division of the maiden (5.15), I am surprised that Charlie Hills’ ESTIFZAAZ is as big as 9/1 this morning. This Invincible Spirit colt has shown immense promise in four runs, including a good fourth to Music Master at Newmarket last month in a race that has worked out well. He is upped in trip today and if he handles the surface he should go very well.

Elsewhere BONDESIRE deserves another chance at Ripon (4.00) in the 6f handicap. She was too keen and also got messed about at Haydock last time and the move back to 6f should suit.
