Dark Horses: Owen can score with Ice Pie

owenTOM DASCOMBE has his horses in decent order. Most seem to be running well and several have been knocking on the door in recent days. He sends an interesting filly north to Thirsk on Saturday in ICE PIE, the winner of her only race. It was the manner in which she put the race to bed at Lingfield in December that really impressed. Owned by Andrew Black and Michael Owen, above, the form also looks decent as she had a few subsequent winners behind her that day. The Mount Nelson filly could have got in lightly in the fillies’ handicap at 2.45.

David O’Meara has had a marvellous week and ELUSIVITY should not be discounted in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket. He has been working well and has an excellent record at the track. O’Meara should pick up a winner with CHANCERY in the 5.10 at Thirsk. He ran a solid race at Haydock last weekend and was also second to The New One in a Cheltenham bumper last year.

Over the jumps, JETNOVA is worth noting at Uttoxeter. He has lost his form a little in the past 18 months but there were signs of a return to form last time. Alan King has his team in tip-top form and he has slipped down to a winnable mark.

Finally, at Doncaster WOTALAD has always been highly regarded by Richard Whittaker and he makes his three-year-old debut in the 6.10. He will almost certainly need the race but he is one to put in the notebook and to consider once he tackles sprint handicaps.
