Star of Rohm to Reign at Ripon

All roads lead to Ripon this afternoon where there is a decent card at Yorkshire’s “Garden” racecourse.

The opener is an interesting 2yo race with several promising types. Star of Rohm ran a blinder at York on his debut and is coming back in trip to 5f. Botanic Garden and Body and Soul have both shown promise and been well backed in their races so far while Clock Opera showed a hint of ability at Ascot first time up. But Star of Rohm should make Hayley Turner’s trip north pay.

Searing Heat is an interesting runner for Henry Cecil in the next. The only glimmer of form was on his 2yo debut on fast ground at Newbury last season. His three runs since have been on soft ground and he has shown very little. Today’s drying conditions might just bring some improvement.

Cecil’s Emilio Largo has been out of sorts but should also appreciate the better ground in the feature race at 3.40pm. He notched up a treble last summer and could bounce back to form today.

Eastern Destiny looks very hard to beat in the 3.10pm, while in the maiden Alan Swinbank’s Star Deal could be the one to be on although Joyful Motive won’t have to be anything special to make a winning debut and is worth noting in the market.

Finally, at Chepstow it is worth noting Andrew Balding’s Micquus in the last race, who will be ridden by Richard Hughes. He made eyecatching late headway in his last race at Kempton and as long as he handles the fast ground he should go very well.

Good luck!
