SATURDAY is the best day’s racing for some time. Probably of the season. Trials day at Cheltenham has gained traction in recent years and the mighty THISTLECRACK will bid to cement his position as wonder horse supreme and Gold Cup favourite in the Cotswold Chase. He should do it although both Smad Place and Many Clouds are previous winners. They are probably the safest and boldest jumpers in the game and if they serve it up to Thistlecrack then hopefully we will be still talking about a wonder horse afterwards and not a blunder horse. That race will be one to watch rather than take a punt on but there are countless other punting opportunities at the meeting and at Doncaster where it is is Sky Bet Chase day.

THEO’S CHARM (12.35): Is yet to really click over fences although he has bumped into a couple of useful types on his two runs over the bigger obstacles. The likely stronger pace should suit and he could be on a decent mark. Best price 11/1
CAUSE OF CAUSES (2.50): Won the Kim Muir last March and could be overpriced in the Cross Country if he takes to this Mickey Mouse type of contest. Best price 9/1
KEEP IN LINE (3.25): Has been running well and this trip could be just what he wants. Best price 11/1

DONCASTER

MIA’S STORM (12.50): Will love the ground and despite top weight is on a handy mark. Best price 20/1
CYRIUS MORIVIERE (1.55): Very unlucky last time when his saddle slipped two out when poised for victory. Ignore his form figures: this is a talented horse and although this is a stiff task he should be up to it if ridden aggressively again. Best price 4/1
FOREST BIHAN (2.30): With Aidan Coleman in the saddle this horse could pay a big compliment to Waiting Patiently who beat him at Newcastle. Best price 7/2
ZIGA BOY (3.40): Has a marvellous record at Doncaster and won this race last year. He ran a blinder last time but has been dropped 7lb. Figure that one out. So he is only 4lb higher than last year’s success and the ground has come right for him. Best price 12/1
